Spinach Pide Recipe

Pide is a traditional Turkish dish that is similar to a pizza but with a unique and delicious twist. This Spinach Pide recipe is a nutritious and tasty variation that is perfect for lunch or dinner. The combination of crispy pide bread, melted cheese, and sautéed spinach makes for an irresistible meal that will leave you wanting more.

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon of salt
    • 1 teaspoon of sugar
    • 1 package of dry yeast
    • 1 cup of warm water
    • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • For the filling:
    • 1 large onion, chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 lb of spinach, washed and chopped
    • 1 teaspoon of salt
    • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
    • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. Making the dough:
    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.
    2. Add the warm water and olive oil to the bowl and mix until a dough forms.
    3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
    4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Making the filling:
    1. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
    2. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
    3. Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and cook until it has wilted down.
    4. Season the spinach mixture with salt, pepper, and oregano and remove from heat.
  3. Assembling the pide:
    1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
    2. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and roll each piece into a thin circle, about 12 inches in diameter.
    3. Place the rolled dough onto a greased baking sheet or pizza stone.
    4. Spread the spinach mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
    5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the spinach mixture.
    6. Fold the edges of the dough up and over the filling, crimping to seal and create a border around the filling.
    7. Bake the pide in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
